    The Miami Valley Health Improvement Council’s mission is to identify and address health related concerns that impact the well being of current and future generations in our service area.

    The Miami Valley Health Improvement Council’s vision is to be widely recognized as the advocate for healthier people and therefore healthier communities.

About Us

    Miami Valley Health Improvement Council is a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization. It was founded in 1963 as the Hospital Planning Council and in 1985 adopted its current name.

    The council works with consumers, employers, local and state government officials and health care providers to promote access, at a reasonable cost to, quality health care for the citizens of Health Service Area 2: Champaign, Clark, Darke, Green, Logan, Miami and Montgomery, Preble and Shelby Counties of the Miami Valley in Ohio. And develops programs to respond to health related concerns.

    In keeping with its mission, for one of MVHIC's main focus' has been on tobacco prevention in it's nine county area. The agency has an excellent record of anti-tobacco promotion since it started this program in 2002. MVHIC has reached over 70,000 students with tobacco prevention presentations. Training and education has been provided to over 2,000 school staff and health care professionals.

    The student training education programs (STEP) have reached over 20,000 students each year and over 2,000 peer educators (high school youth) have been trained.

    The preceding statistic demonstrates the commitment that's placed on its programming and concern for tobacco prevention & control.
